Presentation
A 14km touring cycle circuit starting from Goudargues in the Vallée de la Cèze, available in different versions.
Itinerary highlights: Goudargues, the “Little Venice of the Gard”. La Roque-sur-Cèze, classified “Plus Beau Village de France”. Swimming and leisure activities.
Head for Verfeuil / la Bastide / La Roque-sur-cèze on the RD23 and leave Goudargues. After a few kilometers, you'll come to the hamlet of La Bastide, where a short stop is recommended to admire its ancient castle and roadside wash-house on the left. Then head back towards La-Roque-sur-cèze, still on the RD23. After several kilometers, you come to a crossroads at Claperet, where you must turn left onto the RD143 towards Bagnols-sur-Cèze. In summer, you can admire the lavender fields that enhance the landscape. Continue for several kilometers on this small, undulating road through fields of vines, lavender (in summer) and undergrowth. After passing through Mas Blanquet and La Bégude, take the first left onto the RD166. You'll take a small road that climbs slightly and then descends for several kilometers to reach the village of La Roque-sur-Cèze, which you can admire from afar. On arrival, you can park your bikes in the parking lot below. La-Roque-sur-Cèze, classified as one of France's most beautiful villages, was built on a rocky outcrop overhanging the Cèze, which is spanned by an old twelve-arched bridge. Dominated by the remains of an ancient castle and its Romanesque chapel, the village, with its steep cobblestone streets and Genoese stone houses, offers a breathtaking view of the Sautadet waterfalls, an exceptional natural site that adds to the appeal of the area. Please follow the safety instructions when visiting the waterfalls, as this site, although exceptionally beautiful, is nevertheless very dangerous. Services and shops during the summer season, hike from the parking lot to discover the wooded banks of the Cèze.
The return journey takes the same route as the outward journey, via the minor RD166, then the RD23 in the direction of Goudargues, passing the Claperet crossroads.
