"Why did the popes live in Provence? Who was Albert André?" Passionate about art and history, I invite you on site visits to discover the great pages of Provencal, local or regional history.
You can choose to visit the Pont du Gard in the countryside, or the Roman city of Nîmes in the city. On one side of the Rhône, you'll discover the Palace of the Popes in Avignon, and on the other, the Musée de l'Amitié and its collections of the painter Albert André.

Museum visit: Albert-André in Bagnols-sur-Cèze
The brainchild of painters Léon Allègre and Albert André, this museum is captivating thanks to the beauty of its collections, including paintings by Matisse, Marquet, Van Dongen, Valadon... Exceptional cabinet of drawings and watercolors by Signac, Renoir, Puvis de Chavannes (among others), with rarities such as this caricature drawn by Monet. Fortunately, an entire room is devoted to the works of Albert André, who was exhibited 43 times in his lifetime in New York! Visits last 1h30. (Fixed tour dates, in the Provence Occitane diary or by e-mail reservation).

Site visit: the Pont du Gard
Linking Uzès and Nîmes, this exceptional 50-kilometer Roman aqueduct dating back to the first century AD is a great place to hike and see not only its most imposing part, the Pont du Gard, spanning the Gardon valley, but also its ruined arches and the limestone concretions that have formed. Tour 2h (1h15 if combined with Uzès in the same half-day).

Village visits: Aiguèze, Cornillon, Goudargues, La-Roque-sur-Cèze, Montclus
In the Cèze valley, along the river, we'll discover local history together, from the majestic ruins of the castles of Montclus and Cornillon, to Goudargues, the little Venice of the Gard squeezed around its abbey church, or the perched village of La-Roque-sur-Cèze and the Sautadet waterfalls downstream from the village. In the very north of the Gard, Aiguèze, perched on the cliffs overlooking the Ardèche, was the first Gard village to be awarded the title of Plus Beau Village de France (Most Beautiful Village in France) in 2006. Tours 2h

City tours: Avignon, Uzès, Nîmes, Arles
Avignon, the papal city of theater! Do you know Mistral and the Félibres, the Condition des Soies, the Rue du Roi René, and the seven popes who succeeded one another in the immense medieval palace perched on the rocks, and the famous dancing bridge that linked Provence to Languedoc? (Visit the historic center with or without the Palais des Papes).
Tour 2h

A city of medieval towers, Uzès is a gem not to be missed.
not to be missed. Fifth stronghold of the Protestants in the 16th century, it is rich not only in superb monuments
its superb monuments, but also the people who made history here, such as Duodha in the 9th century
century, Jean Racine, and more recently, Charles Gide and the twelfth Duchess of Uzès. Visit 2h

Nîmes, one of France's most majestic Roman colonies, has just been honored with the Maison Carrée, which will be listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2023. Rich in monuments, including the Arènes and the Temple de Diane, it also exhibits numerous relics in the Musée de la Romanité. And sometimes you'll spot a vintage crocodile hanging out here and there... including in the Jardin de la Fontaine. But the tour will also tell you about other Nîmes activities: textiles, the origin of the famous jeans, brandade, and bullfighting traditions. 2h tour

There's so much to discover in the way of art and history in Arles, famous for its Roman monuments and for the stay of painter Van Gogh in 1888/1889. For this reason, tours focus either on the built heritage and its history (Roman and medieval monuments, palaces and museums), or on the various facets of art in Arles, including a loop to the Luma tower and the quartier des ateliers. On request, a thematic tour in the footsteps of Vincent Van Gogh. Tour 2h
Other tours on offer: Saint-Quentin-la-Poterie and its potters, the Chartreuse de Valbonne founded in 1204 near Pont-Saint-Esprit.
