Goudargues
Presentation
The café terraces come to life with the first rays of summer, the markets, or at night on Fridays, offering this green gem some of the most pleasant settings in Provence Occitane.
Nicknamed the « small Venise of the Gard”, Goudargues is definitively placed under the sign of water. Roman vestiges are here to confirm there was a human presence near the source as soon as the 3rd century. Throughout the following centuries, Benedictine monks did everything to make the most of this providential wealth, by irrigating their cultivations, and by developing an oil and grain mill. It also suffered from historical assaults, but the village managed to preserve beautiful vestiges despite it all, such as its Roman abbatial church. Restored in the 19th century and listed historical monument, it remains the jewel of this village where it is nice to wander along the canal in the shade of the plane trees. The café terraces come to life with the first rays of summer, the markets on Wednesday mornings, or at night on Fridays, offering this green gem some of the most pleasant settings in Provence Occitane.
