Les Cascades du Sautadet
Presentation
The Cascades du Sautadet give a wild accent to this rather tranquil river, as it winds its way through cavities, rapids and giant potholes carved out by the millennia.
Situated below the village of La-Roque-sur-Cèze, nestled in a landscape of garrigue and southern forest, the Cascades du Sautadet unfurl along the current of the Cèze River.
The Cascades du Sautadet give a wild accent to this rather tranquil river, flowing between cavities, rapids and giant potholes carved out by the millennia. Their name, which owes as much to the Occitan "Sautadet" - "little water jump" - as to mythology - the "jump of Hades", God of the buried worlds, sounds like a poem by Mistral or the promise of a new adventure.
The picturesque site is regularly visited by film crews, whose sets are so unique. However, for the more adventurous among you, make sure you stay away from the swirling pools, as a fall into the canyons can be fatal. So be careful!
After the waterfalls, there's a beach where you can swim and enjoy the coolness of the river.
Classified as one of France's "Most Beautiful Villages", the hilltop town of La Roque sur Cèze is well worth a visit to discover its cobbled streets and calades.
