If you believe that trying new food is an essential part of any holiday, our region is sure to delight you.
With a hot Mediterranean climate and fairly common Mistral spells, the Côtes du Rhône Gardoises wine area proudly boasts seven Protected Designations of Origin (PDO).
The best known and most extensive is still the regional Côtes du Rhône.  But don't miss an opportunity to discover also the excellent Côtes du Rhône Village (Laudun, Chusclan and Saint-Gervais).  Generous, fruity reds and surprisingly bold rosés and whites that tend to be fruity for Laudun or floral for Saint-Gervais.
Connoisseurs will already know that the Côtes du Rhône Gardoises area produced the first French AOC rosé wine: the Tavel vintage.  This famous wine, called the "wine of kings" and enjoyed worldwide, grows on soils of slate, pebbles, sand and gravel, which gives it a high concentration of aromas, harmonious fragrances and incomparable structure.  It is the only rosé found on the menus of all French 3-star restaurants and it is also a big hit in Asia with Chinese cuisine!
The Lirac vintage, its neighbour, flourishes around the Roman vestiges and garrigue of the Gard area, between limestone massifs, ancient alluvial terraces of the Rhône and sands.  It is one of the few local wines found in three colours: powerful reds, aromatic whites and "round" rosés.
